Ramsey Performance Training (RPT), one of the best "Off Season" conditioning programs for athletes, is located in the heart of Middle Tennessee. The program, founded by Lamont Ramsey over 20 years ago, began as a means for Ramsey to train sons, Jamal and Jalen, to improve their athletic abilities. Since that time, many of the top youth, middle school, high school, college and pro athletes from the area have trained with him, making him highly respected and sought after. He maintains a constant waiting list of athletes hoping for the chance to come out and work with him. His program is notable, but understand, it is no easy walk-on effort. In order to become a member of this exclusive training squad, all athletes who participate are required to try-out and prove their commitment to hard work and being the best.
Ramsey embraces a grassroots approach to his style of performance training. He still trains out of the same garage where he trained his sons for years, proving to all that its not the size of the facility that makes the difference, but the mindset of the athlete and the quality of training they receive that takes them to the next level. His primary focus is on developing the total athlete, who is well-conditioned, has excellent footwork and great SPEED. He knows that the formula for creating a well-rounded athlete includes all of these aspects, but he also emphasizes the importance of having good character, as well. RPT's motto is, "Using Athletic Ability to Reach Life Goals," so they push all of the participants to dedicate themselves to becoming better. The RPT coaching staff is highly decorated with related degrees, certifications, licenses and experience, to further support the overall success of the program.
RPT recently hosted a mini-camp for NFL players called "PRO GRIND 2018", in Smyrna, Tennessee. Players were looking to get some off-season work with the man credited for training Jalen Ramsey (Ranked #17 in the NFL Top 100 for 2018). There were several days of intense and targeted workouts, and as if any of us are surprised, there was also a significant amount of trash talking. Overall, it was a great week! Those who attended include Jalen Ramsey (#20, Jacksonville Jaguars), AJ Bouye (#21, Jacksonville Jaguars), Aaron Colvin (#22, Houston Texans), Corn Elder (#35, Carolina Panthers), Rashaan Gaulden (#28, Carolina Panthers), and Casey Hayward (#26, Los Angeles Chargers). Also making an appearance was Doug Marrone, head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The RPT program boasts some pretty impressive stats that include, but are not limited to:
6 - Freshman All Americans
3 - All Americans
1 - Concensus All American
1 - NCAA National Champion
1 - Heisman Trophy Finalist
7 - All Conference Players
1 - Arena Ball Defensive Player of the Year
2 - NFL 1st Rounders (Top 15 picks)
1 - NFL 3rd Rounder
1 - NFL 4th Rounder
1 - NFL 6th Rounder
1 - NFL All Pro
1 - NFL Pro Bowler
1 - NFL Super Bowl Champion
Judging by the results, there is NO doubt that this program works. One of Ramsey's popular sayings is, "Trust the Process", and with this strong track record, that's a check you can take to the bank. Keep an eye out for Ramsey Performance Training. I have a feeling there is a lot more to come!
